2021 Cross Country Details

We are very excited about this upcoming season of our youth Cross Country program in Rosemount! This year, we are again opening our program for runners entering 1st through 5th grade for the 2021-2022 school year.

The goal of the RAAA Cross Country program is to provide a positive experience for kids of all abilities that are interested in running. The program is designed to develop basic skills in distance running and then build on that foundation as the season progresses.

This year, we have five (5) meets on the calendar so far. Meet dates as of now are September 1st, September 9th, September 16th, September 23rd and September 30th.  Meet dates are subject to change and may not be rescheduled if they are canceled because of weather. All meets currently scheduled are in nearby communities - Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville, Farmington. Meets typically start at 6pm and will last just over an hour.

As in previous seasons, meets are optional. We encourage kids to attend as many practices and meets as they can.

Practices will be twice a week and will meet behind Rosemount High School. A typical practice is a warm-up, trail running and then wrapping up with a cool down and stretching. At the start of the season, much of the focus is on conditioning and building up endurance.

We do need parent volunteers that are willing to attend practices and meets on a regular basis. In this volunteer role, you will be out on the running path with runners during practice and helping lead pre-meet warm-ups as needed. Practice activities will be set so the time commitment are practices and meets. If you decide to volunteer, you will need to meet the requirements (background check, concussion training) as noted in the RAAA policies. If you have questions on what this might entail, please contact Anne Knapp with questions.

Because COVID-19 guidelines have been relaxed, parents are welcome to join us for our practice runs this season. Please note that if guidelines become more restrictive, this opportunity may not be available.

  • Program Dates:  August 9th – September 30th
  • Age Requirements:  Boys and Girls entering grades 1 through 5 in the Fall of 2021.
  • Equipment:  Running shoes required. T-shirt provided by RAAA
  • Fees:  $50.00 registration
  • In-Season Schedule:
  • Practices will take place Monday and Thursday. Again, because COVID-19 guidelines have been relaxed, we are planning to practice as one large group, If guidelines change and things tighten back up, we will make every effort to put a practice plan in place that works best for different schedules.
