We are very excited about this upcoming season of our youth Cross Country program in Rosemount! This year, we are opening our program for runners entering 1st through 5th grade for the 2020-2021 school year.
The goal of the RAAA Cross Country program is to provide a positive experience for kids of all abilities that are interested in running. The program is designed to develop basic skills in distance running and then build on that foundation as the season progresses.
Because of current guidelines in place to ensure safe participating in youth sports, we expect to have at least 2 meets this season. Please be aware that the number of meets may change - increase or decrease - based on guidance from MDH regarding youth sports.
As in previous seasons, meets are optional. We encourage kids to attend as many practices and meets as they can.
Practices will be twice a week and will meet behind Rosemount High School. A typical practice is a warm-up, trail running and then wrapping up with a cool down and stretching. At the start of the season, much of the focus is on conditioning and building up endurance.
We do need parent coaches that are willing to lead running groups and pre-meet warm-ups. Practice activities will be set so the time commitment are practices and meets. Please note that given current guidelines from MDH, parents that wish to help out/run with their athletes MUST be a registered volunteer and adhere to volunteer requirements (background check, etc.) as noted in the RAAA policies. If you have questions on what this might entail, please contact Anne Knapp, the Cross Country program director.
Program Dates: August 3rd – September 18th (If there is an opportunity to participate in meets after September 18th, we will inform participants as early as possible as it would extend the season.)
Age Requirements: Boys and Girls entering grades 1 through 5 in the fall of 2020.
Equipment: Running shoes required. T-shirts provided by RAAA
Fees: $50.00 registration
Practices will take place Monday and Thursday. In order to adhere to current guidelines, we will be assigning runners to specific practice groups, based on grade level. Currently, we are limited to 25 participants, including athletes, coaches and volunteers, for each practice group. If you have a special request for a practice group, please note that during the registration process or contact Anne Knapp, the Cross Country program director. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request but it is not guaranteed.
In the event that we cannot accommodate all practices on Monday and Thursday, we will hold practices on other days of the week. If you have a specific request on days that work best for practices, please note that during the registration process or contact Anne Knapp.
As soon as information regarding meets is available, we will share it with the team.
